Two more patients succumbed to dengue at Safdarjung Hospital and lok Nayak Hospital, taking the toll to 21 this year. The total number of dengue cases in Delhi has gone up to 1,692 with 921 of them being reported this month, according to a municipal report.
“A boy from Delhi died due to dengue at our hospital on Friday,” said Dr AK Rai, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital.
Dr JC Passey, Director at lok Nayak Hospital told The Pioneer, “A five-year-old child died on September 9 of dengue shock syndrome within three hours of admission. The deceased’s dengue positive report came on September 12,” said Dr Passey, adding that a total of three dengue fatalities have occurred at the hospital so far.
Dr Passey said now patients suffering from fever are turning up less in the hospitals.
The first dengue victim this season was a 17-year-old girl from Jafrabad in North-East Delhi who died on July 21 at this hospital, said the doctor. Another person had died over a month later.
With the boy’s death, the total number of dengue deaths reported at Safdarjung Hospital has gone up to four.
At least 314 cases of the vector-borne disease have been reported between September 18 and 24, South Delhi Municipal Corporation said in its latest report.
Out of the 21 deaths, nine at AIIMS and rest at other city hospitals, the SDMC has only acknowledged four of them.
AIIMS in a report released on September 15 had said among the dengue and chikungunya patients visiting the hospital, 70 per cent belonged to Uttar Pradesh, 10 per cent to Bihar and rest to Delhi.
