Two men were reportedly found dead due to carbon monoxide poisoning in the residence of an hotelier at Shri Ram Road in Civil Lines, police said on Thursday. The duo worked as domestic helps.

According to police, the deceased persons were identified as Ranjeet (45) and Chandan (25), both residents of Uttarakhand. For the past eight to ten years, they were working as domestic help in the residence of the hotelier residing in Civil Lines.

“A police control room (PCR) call was received around 9.00 am on Thursday regarding death of two persons due to suffocation,” said a senior police official.

On reaching the spot, police immediately took the two persons to Hindu Rao Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead on arrival. Police revealed that the bodies have been sent for postmortem and the cause of death can be confirmed only after the postmortem results are declared.

Police said Ranjeet and Chandan had lit up an angeethi as the weather was extremely cold on Wednesday. However, after lighting the angeethi, they locked the room with no opening for fresh air supply.

It was reported that the room they were residing in was small and therefore was a high level of carbon monoxide in the room suffocating the duo to death.

On Thursday morning, when they didn’t come out of the room, the other workers in the house became suspicious and went to check on them.

They found one person lying lifeless in the bed and one person on the floor and called the police. Meanwhile, a case has been lodged at Civil Lines police station and police are investigating the matter.

Earlier on December 25, 2018, two people died of carbon monoxide poisoning at Ramesh Nagar in Rajori Garden, after they went to bed burning an angeethi. On November 28, 2017, six people died in Delhi Cantonment area.
