Two killed as motorcycle rams into barricade

Two men were killed after their motorcycle rammed into a barricade at the Mukundpur flyover in North-West Delhi's Jahangirpuri area on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Bajrang Singh (32) and Rajkumar Thakur (40). Singh was riding the motorcycle, while Thakur was riding pillion.

A senior police officer said the accident took place around 10.05 pm when the duo reached Mukundpur flyover. Construction work was going on at one of the sections of the flyover and barricades had been put around it to warn commuters.

An eyewitness told police that when the motorcycle reached the flyover, it was over speeding instead of slowing down.

The senior police official said that the accident happened when the rider turned his head to spit out something that he had been chewing. The next moment, the speeding motorcycle hit one of the barricades and overturned.

A passerby made the PCR call after which the local police rushed both of them to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri where they were declared brought dead.

Police said that Singh and Thakur were auto drivers by profession. Both were married. They were returning from Samaypur Badli at the time of the accident. The bike belonged to Singh's brother.

The families of the victims have been informed. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Jahangirpuri police station. Further investigation is underway, said the senior police official.
