Delhi Police has arrested two youths for allegedly killing a 24-year-old man and dumping his body in the Hindon River. The youth was a resident of Guru Tegh Bahadur Enclave area in Trans-Yamuna, police said on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Deepak and police teams are on the job to locate the body of the deceased.
Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) said that the accused — Ranjeet and Sourabh, both 22-year-old, were arrested under Sections of kidnapping and murder. Police added that they have also recovered the motorcycle used during the crime.
“On April 1, we received a missing complaint for Deepak, who works at a call centre in Kaushambi from his family,” the police said.
“On the next day, the police registered a missing case under Section 365 of the IPC. Two teams were formed to track the accused. Based on local Intelligence, such as questioning of security guards and employees of the call center and technical surveillance mounted on the two accused, we managed to apprehend Ranjeet and Saurabh from Delhi,” said a senior investigator. “Upon enquiry, we found that Deepak was last seen with his colleagues from the call center,” the police said.
During sustained interrogation, the duo disclosed that Ranjeet, Sourabh and Deepak used to work in the same call center. A few months ago, a female friend of Ranjeet had joined the same company.
On finding that Ranjeet’s female friend was getting friendly with Deepak, Ranjeet became jealous and enraged. Therefore, the two accused hatched a plan to kill Deepak.
Police suspect that Deepak was strangulated after which his body was thrown into the river. Police said that they have added Section 302, 201, 34 of the IPC to the case at the GTB Enclave area police station.
On the intervening night of March 31 and April 1, while Deepak was heading home, the accused offered Deepak to have a small get-together. The trio then went on Ranjeet’s motorcycle and had alcohol.
"Few minutes later, the accused had an argument when they all reached near the Nathu flyover and in turn the accused started beating Deepak with their helmet. They thrashed the deceased till he lost consciousness and then dumped his body in the Hindon River," said another senior police officer.
