Heavy police force have been deployed in Rabupura area of Gautam Budh Nagar after people of two communities clashed over a disputed construction site around a graveyard land. Two dozen men, including police personnel, were injured in the clash.
Both the communities have been claiming ownership of the land for the last couple of decades. Hundreds of people from both sides engaged in brick-batting and cross firing for almost two hours and then set fire to valuables present on the roadside.
Heavy police force was rushed on the spot and police lathi-charged the mob to disperse it.
Police said that the brawl took place between the communities over construction of shops at disputed land. Police said former Municipal Chairman, Thakur Netrapal, had claimed ownership of the land and was allowing construction over there. The other community, however, had been claiming that it was a graveyard property and construction can not be allowed.
On Tuesday around 2 pm, around 200 youths rushed to the site and forced the workers to stop work. The tension gripped the entire area that led to the violent clash.
“We have made elaborate security arrangements on the site. We have called both parties to settle the dispute. Action will be taken against those who instigated the incident to disrupt communal harmony. We have decided to impose Section 144 in the area,” said Dileep Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jewer, Greater Noida. However, the police is yet to register an FIR.
