Two members of the Bawana gang were arrested from Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. The police also recovered three country-made pistols and four live cartridges.
According to the police on Thursday, 48-year-old Rakesh alias Jatti and 28-year-old Akhil alias Maya were arrested from Chanakya Palace on Wednesday. “Rakesh, a parole jumper, has a long history of violent crimes, including murder, robbery, extortion, and illegal possession of firearms. He first committed murder as an act of revenge for the killing of his maternal uncle. He was involved in eight heinous cases over the years. He was on parole in a murder case registered at PS Raj Park, Delhi, but never returned to custody. He once ran a furniture shop in MangolPuri but turned to crime for personal revenge and financial gain,” a senior police officer said.
Akhil, an associate of the gang, has a record of 12 offenses, including murder and robbery, the officer said. He added, “Akhil is a former inmate of Tihar Jail and became closely associated with Neeraj Bawania and his gang members, including Naveen alias Bali, during his time in prison.” Further, the officer said that he has several social media videos boasting about his gang affiliations, further establishing his links with the Neeraj Bawania Gang.
