Elderly woman, son murdered in cold blood in Rohini
A 62-year-old woman and her 40-year-old son were found murdered in their home on Friday afternoon. A neighbour found the bodies of Usha Mishra and her son Jitendra in a pool of blood in two separate rooms of their home in Outer Delhi’s Rohini area, a police officer said. “It seemed a friendly entry into the house since there were glasses of water on the table. Even though the house was found ransacked, robbery seems an unlikely motive,” said a police officer. Police have not ruled out the possibility of personal enmity.
Usha and Jitendra had been living in Rohini’s Sector 5 for the past 26 years. Usha’s husband, a magazine vendor in Ashok Vihar, had passed away in 2008. The bodies were discovered by a neighbor who found the lights, TV still on in Mishras’ residence and the door to their house ajar. Both victims had sustained grievous head injuries. The Crime Branch, Special Cell and forensics reached the scene of crime to lift crucial circumstantial evidence. Police officials have also seized CCTV footage of a nearby building to identify the assailants. The murder weapon is yet to be recovered.
Jitendra suffered from spondylosis and was bedridden. Usha was last seen by the neighbours when she was returning home from a nearby mom-and-pop store. “She was very cautious and never opened the door for strangers. The TV volume had been turned up by the accused to avoid being heard,” surmised one of the neighbours.
The recovery of a wallet at the scene of crime is where the police have hit bull’s-eye. “The wallet does not belong to anyone in the family. An ID card of one Virendra Sharma, a resident of Vijay Vihar and works at Rohini Court complex, has also been recovered. As of now he is the prime suspect,” said a relative of the dead.
“A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been registered at Vijay Vihar police. The case is being probed from all angles,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.
