Truckers' strike would spell doom for Delhiites!

Published on:

Truckers have decided to carry out a chakka jam at entry points of Delhi, UP and Haryana from Tuesday evening onward to protest against the stopping of re-registration and fitness certification of diesel vehicles older than ten years old in light of NGT order.

Amid the rising prices of vegetables, such a move may lead to a further rise in prices.

Bhim Wadwa, the president of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), said in a statement that the truckers and transporters from Delhi and NCR met on Monday to share their plight as many of their vehicles “are stranded” in Delhi, UP and Haryana due to non-issuance of fitness and re-registration certificates.

Wadhwa added that the transporters fraternity has decided to abandon their vehicles at various State borders to protest this apathetic attitude that is causing them a great loss of their livelihoods. “The apathetic attitude of the Transport Department of Delhi, UP and Haryana has peeved the entire transport fraternity who has lost their livelihood and business. They were of unanimous view that they cannot further bear the loss of their livelihood and they unanimously decided to abandon their vehicles at various State borders,” he said in the statement.

If the truckers go on strike, the price of vegetables, which is already high, may even rise further causing great inconvenience to the common man. last time the truck associations had gone on strike against the NGT order banning old diesel vehicles, a cascading effect was witnessed leading to shortage of daily need products including milk, bread, vegetables etc.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had banned all diesel vehicles that are over 10 years old from plying on the roads in Delhi in response to rising vehicular pollution in the city, which has earned it the dubious distinction of being the most polluted in the world. later, however, it had given them relaxation to ply on the roads.
