A copper-laden truck worth around Rs1.5 crore was hijacked by unidentified armed assailants who were tracking the truck. The truck was forcibly commandeered from New Delhi district’s Mandir Marg area and was taken to a place in Baghpat district of western UP.

later, the truck was recovered from Baraut area but the copper worth around Rs1.5 crore was missing. Those who forced the driver to move towards loni border had evicted him there and the truck was taken to Baraut.

local police of UP recovered the truck and informed the Delhi Police since truck was forced to move towards West UP from New Delhi area. A case was registered under Section 382 and 34 of the IPC on the charges of committing theft after threatening to kill or kidnap at Mandir Marg police station.

What is more shocking is that after committing the incident, the robbers crossed several police check posts and pickets in the area but police failed to sense something wrong.

“The incident took place when three drivers, including the victim Pawan Kumar (31), who works in Sahibabad Transport Company, left from Mohan Nagar for Jaipur. They were carrying 25 tonnes copper and it had to be transported in Jaipur,” a senior police officer said.

The driver of the hijacked vehicle told the police, around 12.30am, he left from Mohan Nagar and after filling petrol, they were heading towards Jaipur. “On their way, the other two trucks overtook him near the Hanuman Murti, Karol Bagh and suddenly, one speeding Qualis intercepted him and stopped their car in front of the truck near at Vande Mataram Marg (Ridge Road),” the officer added.

Police said that three assailants came out from the car and started alleging that he has committed an accident. “When Pawan got down from the truck, a heated argument began and they forcefully made him sit in their car and two men started driving his truck. They forcibly took the truck from Mandir Marg area to Baghpat district of West UP and on their way; they dumped the driver Kumar at loni border and escaped. He was unable to note down the car’s number,” an officer said.

later, the victim somehow managed to reach Baghpat police station and informed the UP police about the incident. He made a call and informed his employer about the incident. “local UP police recovered the looted truck from Baraut but the copper was missing. Since the truck was forced to move towards West UP from New Delhi area, the complainant came in Delhi and lodged a complaint,” the officer added.
