Even after Delhi Police took 63 people into custody, five main accused are still on the run. However, police is leaving no stone unturned in finding these accused and assuring that peace is restored to the communal-strife region. A team of officers has been assigned with the investigations into this fracas.
To ensure life limps back to normal, police officers have formed over 10 squads to conduct door-to-door searches for firearms.
The five accused, who are absconding, had consumed alcohol on Diwali night near a place of worship and tossed the meat during prayers, which locals aver was the trigger. Police sources said these brigands picked fights for no reason to strike terror in the locals. A manhunt has been launched and they will be nabbed soon. Police officers are also scanning the CCTV footage to home in on the accused.
“63 hoax callers have been arrested by police. Seven people have sustained gunshot injuries. 56 police personnel and 17 civilians have sustained injuries. Four FIRs have been registered till date,” said a police officer.
Residents from Block 27 confirmed cops’ worst fears saying a political leader had indeed convened a meeting before Diwali. “The common man is suffering for no reason. We have not been able to open our shops. I have `110 on me and cannot go to a bank,” rued Faheem, a local. “No fresh violence has been reported since Sunday,” assured Special Commissioner of Police (law & Order) Deepak Mishra. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC are still in force to avoid violence. All the main exit and entry points too have been sealed by police.
