In order to rework on the entire water structure of eight Assembly segments, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) held a brainstorming session to address the water woes of localities falling under these constituencies. Attended by the CEO of DJB, SS Yadav, vice chairman Kapil Mishra and other officials, the meeting dwelt upon the problems faced by the people of Dwarka-Palam, Tughlakabad-Sangam Vihar and Okhla, Chandni Chowk-Ballimaran, Rithala-Mundka, Bawana, Karawal Nagar, Moti Nagar, and Seelampur-Maujpur areas. Assessment by the DJB has revealed that these areas need immediate attention like revamping of the entire water pipeline network and construction of underground reservoirs.

“We have discussed with our chief engineer, how to reconstruct the entire water supply line in these areas, so that residents in these area get relief as early as possible,” vice chairman of the DJB Kapil Mishra told The Pioneer, adding that, they are ready with the blueprint to address the water problems by laying down new water connection pipelines and constructing underground reservoirs and borewell.

“As these problems are bigger, it might take a year, but for the meanwhile water is being supplied through water tankers and common supply water points regularly,” said Mishra, adding that, all the damaged pipelines are constructed; new pipelines will be enhanced in the area for the new start of water supply and underground reservoirs will be built up. “There are some areas in Karawal Nagar where people are facing acute water problem,” said Mishra, and added that the development process has been started.

Meanwhile, in a related development the DJB has added four new colonies under Tilak Nagar constituency to its water distribution network.   These colonies include New Mahavir Nagar, Krishna Park, Krishna Puri and Ganesh Nagar. “This initiative will cater to a population of about 60,000-70,000 people. The piped water supply in the area is now available in the morning and evening,” said DJB official adding that, earlier, these colonies were dependent on water supply through tankers.
