In its bid to make the national Capital a pollution free city, the Delhi Transport department on Friday launched the trial runs for the first ever electric buses for the public. The trial run of the e-bus will continue for three months and also the Government will float the tenders by end of this year to purchase 1000 more such vehicles.
The e-bus inaugurated by the transport Minister Kailash Gahlot and Transport Commissioner Varsha Joshi will run on the schedule of route no-522 from Ambedkar Nagar to Inderpuri (Krishi Kunj). The bus will be charged at Kushak Nala bus depot .The low floor Air-conditioned (AC) e-bus is equipped with four CCTV cameras, panic buttons and GPS tracking system.
"The present trial run will be instrumental in understanding how modern low-floor pure electric buses adapt to the road conditions of Delhi, how efficient their batteries are and how quickly can they be deployed at scale in Delhi. Further, the Government is also in a planning to float tenders by December so that the zero-emissions vehicles are rolled out in the next five to six months," said Kailash Gahlot, when flagging off the trial run of the bus from Delhi Secretariat.
