The Delhi Police will finally get to own “a state of the art” Police Training College (PTC) at Jharoda Kalan. Spread over 75 acre, the modernised police training complex will have additional facilities of simulation block, classroom block, administrative block, shopping complex, sports complex, gymnasium, a hospital training parade ground, ceremonial parade ground, physical training ground, Gazetted Officer (GO)’s mess among other facilities.
The proposal to upgrade the existing PTC at Jharoda Kalan was pending for the last six years. The project was finally cleared by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The state of the art police training college is going to differ from the currently functional police training colleges in Delhi, said a senior police officer.
Tabled in 2011, the proposal to set up a technologically and comprehensive training complex has been pending for the past six years. While it was cleared in 2013 by the MHA, the final nod came from the fire and other civic agencies in February this year. Eventually, the Home Ministry gave a nod to the project in August.
“At the time of the 2010 Olympic Games, the idea was pitched in to create a unified training centre. Here, we are planning to set up three indoor and one outdoor playground. The present state of the police training centres at Jharoda Kalan and Tughlakabad is not very good,” said a senior police officer.
Work on the modernised police training complex is likely to begin from the second week of September and the deadline for the project is stated to be 30 months.
The new complex will also have WiFi, air conditioned rooms, better running tracks along with artificial grass. The key idea to incorporate these facilities is to prepare a state of the art and a modernised complex where officers of the ranks of IPS and DANIPS will come and train themselves to serve in the force. The residential flats of the police personnel will be constructed on the lines of being eco-friendly.
Every year, the new recruits asked to join the police force are made to live in over-crowded police colonies. However, in this project, nearly 7,028 residential flats will be made available to the policemen and their families.
Talking about how this state of the art police centre is going to be different, a senior police officer said, “This is going to be an organised and equipped with the latest facilities. Emulating the police forces in other countries, we are also planning to incorporate 3 types of indoor and outdoor playgrounds which will be equipped with the artificial grass.
The crucial idea to push this project was to provide the best of the training facilities to the trainee policemen and women under one roof. “Previously, all the new recruits had to undergo training in make shift camps and go on to other training centres across the country. However, with the setting up of this complex at Jharoda Kalan, police officers, including the IPS officers will get to train under one roof,” said a senior police officer.
