Having successfully launched Rahgiri Day, Gurgaon Police on Monday unveiled ‘Traffic Tau’, a one-of-a-kind initiative to educate people about traffic rules.
Fashioned after a village headman, ‘Traffic Tau’ will be dressed in a white dhoti, blue jacket, red turban and will be carrying a lathi (cane). As the new mascot of the traffic police in Gurgaon, he will deliver messages on road safety in the local Haryanvi dialect. A person dressed as Traffic Tau and representatives of Gurgaon traffic police will stand at popular intersections, traffic lights and public hangouts. He will assist traffic cops in verbal and physical brawls. The Tau could be a village elder, a member of a Residential Welfare Association (RWA) or a senior citizen.
The mascot was launched by actor Chandrachur Singh on Monday at a Press conference along with Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bharti Arora. Chandrachur has been living in Gurgaon’s DlF phase 3 since 1990. “The amiable yet authoritative character of ‘Traffic Tau’ will instantly connect with people in Gurgaon. The character will bring alive the importance of safe driving and spread the message of road safety. We look forward to a safer Christmas and New Year with the launch of this initiative and urge everyone to pay heed to Traffic Tau,” the official said.
