Traffic snarls post duststorm, rain

It was a chaotic Tuesday on the roads of Delhi as the traffic moved at a snail’s pace in different parts of the city for several hours. The traffic on the Ring Road towards Mathura Road (along the Ashram flyover) and Bhogal (below Ashram flyover) from the DND expressway side was diverted throughout the day after a gantry crane was dislocated on Monday night due to the heavy storm and wind. Due to the diversion, heavy traffic was reported from nearby roads which led to a cascading effect.

“Due to damage of Metro gantry, slip road from Maharani Bagh to Ashram Chowk blocked. Motorist going to Faridabad should use Kalindi Kunj or Captain Gaur Marg  Modi Mill road. Congestion in surrounding areas also. Problem to continue for two days,” traffic police said.

However, Metro officials said light vehicles coming from Noida were later allowed on the blocked stretch during the evening.

“Adequate traffic marshals and temporary signage have been put up at all crucial intersections to inform the motorists,” Metro officials said.

Meanwhile, over-flow of sewer lines a day after the rains also led to traffic snarls in some places. Heavy traffic was reported on Mehrauli-Badarpur road in the evening due to overflow of sewer pipe line near Batra Hospital, traffic police officials said. Another overflow of sewer pipeline was reported near Modi Mill which led to obstruction in traffic in the carriageway from Modi Mill towards East of Kailash, traffic officials said.

On Monday evening as well, heavy traffic was reported in the area due to water-logging after rains lashed Delhi.

Commuters also complained of long tailbacks at Vikas Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Road, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, etc. Ring Road, Barapullah Elevated Road, Outer Ring Road and DND Flyway towards Delhi also witnessed slow traffic.
