The Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday launched a campaign to create awareness among the public about improving the safety standards on anti-drunken driving and anti-stunt riding on Sunday at India Gate. Actor Siddharth Malhotra was a part of the campaign to educate the people about the same.
According to AK Singh, Deputy commissioner of Police (Traffic) “India records the highest road fatalities in the world. Many of these fatalities are caused due to drunken driving and stunt driving. The most vulnerable segment affected by these accidents are the youth ie 18 to 49 years. losing a life in something avoidable is bad but losing young life is worse.”
“Delhi Traffic Police challaned 28,000 people for drunken driving and 2,05,470 for dangerous driving in 2016 and this year till 15th June 11,188 drunken driving and 1,11,629 dangerous driving cases have been registered.last year alone in Delhi there were 7,000 accidents in which 7,000 people got injured and 1,500 lost their lives.” he added.
Being influenced from movies and stunts performed by professionals, youth get indulged in these lives taking activities and this not only becomes a threat to their own safety but to other users on road as well.Similarly, drunken driving has been in trend for youth.Alcohol can have profound negative effects on driving as it slows reflexes, changes visual perception and leads to lack of concentration and comprehension which causes road accidents.
Actor, Siddharth Malhotra also expressed his views on safe driving and making the youth aware about safety rules to be followed on road.
