The Delhi Traffic Police yet again came to the rescue of a man who needed a heart transplant by creating a green corridor for an ambulance carrying the heart. The ambulance covered a distance of over 25 km in less than 22 minutes, leading to a successful transplant.
Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander said after a family consented to donate the organs of a person declared brain dead by Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon, a green corridor was created to transport the heart to Fortis Escort Hospital, New Friends’ Colony.
“Fortis New Friends’ Colony had a patient who required heart transplant. Getting the information from hospital authorities, the Delhi Traffic Police decided the route and deployed its officers to facilitate the seamless transp-ortation,” said Chander, adding the operation was successful.
The ambulance covered a distance of 25.4 km from Aya Nagar border to New Friends’ Colony in 21.35 minutes via Andheria More, MB Road, Khanpur, BRT Corridor, Chirag Delhi, Outer Ring Road, Modi Mill Fly Over, said Chander.
He said the Traffic Police also recorded the video of the movement, specially those vehicles who did not give right of way to ambulance despite directions to move in the left lane. “Based on the video evidence, violators will be prosecuted by sending the challans at their addresses,” Chander said.
The Delhi Traffic Police had created a green corridor for transport of a heart for transplant last month as well from Karol Bagh to Saket when a distance of about 10 km was covered in 16 minutes.
