An audio-taped conversation submitted by the dismissed traffic policeman, Satish Chand, to the Tughlak Road police station has given an altogether different dimension to the case involving Ramanjeet Kaur, the woman scooterist. The veracity of the tape is being examined as it will be used as corroborative evidence in the case. The 44-second-tape clearly shows that Kaur was ‘instigating’ the policeman by talking ‘loudly’ and ‘disrespectfully’ after he asked her to show the documents.
In the audio clip, which Chand had reportedly recorded in his mobile phone, he is asking for the papers after the woman denied to give him the original documents. He is asking the woman to give him the scooty’s registration certificate (RC) and her driving licence on the basis of which he would issue challan.
He said, “kagaz de do drama mat karo (give me the documents, don’t create a scene)”, on which woman replied, “hoga to kya karoge (if it happens what could you do)”. She then replied that she would not give him the ‘challan money’ in his hand. Chand again asked the RC and licence but she refused to comply and used abusive language.
She said, “hum tucche ghar ke dikh rahe hain kya tumari tarahIJ (Are we looking like low standard people like youIJ)”. She repeats “tum tucche ho” (You are a lowly man), to which the head constable replied “tucche tum ho” (you are of low standard) which later turned into heated arguments and a fight ensued between the two.
Investigators told The Pioneer that they were verifying the audio clip which Chand submitted after he was arrested for thrashing the woman. Chand informed police that he recorded the audio but it was cut short due to a call at the same time. He also said that he immediately called a PCR stating a woman was misbehaving with him.
The accused head constable, who is a resident of Chanakyapuri police lines, had also given a written complaint at Tughlak Road police station against the woman after matter came into the media. Police, however, did not pay heed to his complaint. Currently, he is lodged in Tihar Jail serving 14-day custody.
On Tuesday, the Delhi Police had claimed that it was the woman who first misbehaved with the traffic police head constable and hurled bricks at him.
