Traders will never ditch BJP: Lekhi

Traders are BJP’s loyal voters, they will never ditch the BJP, they know the Congress was in power both Delhi and Centre when sealing issue was first raised in 2006. It was the Congress who did nothing despite being in power for over a decade,” Meenakshi Lekhi said while talking to The Pioneer.

The BJP leader is very confident for her win against ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Brijesh Goyal and Ajay Makan.

The BJP leader has claimed to one of the oldest political identity in Delhi. When questioned about her opponent for New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, Lekhi replied, “I am not a new face for Delhites, as their MP, I have been working for water related issue too.”

Targeting AAP candidate Goyal, Lekhi said, “Goyal is new, though a traders’ leader, as far as concern to traders, they are very loyal to the BJP,” Lekhi added. Notably, AAP leader Goyal termed Lekhi as an absentee MP.

Quoting Public Road Development (PWD) roads under Delhi Government, Lekhi questioned AAP, “If AAP is serious on sealing, why are they not notifying 455 PWD roads as commercial ones, despite being in the power since 2015? Since they have no issue to boast about, they are shedding crocodile tears for the traders,” she said.

Mentioning Congress candidate Makan’s role as Minister of State for Urban Development, Lekhi said, “Congress ruled in Delhi and Centre but failed to amend Master Plan for Delhi. Why the monitoring committee was not formed when Congress was in power?” Lekhi questioned.

BJP leader who was hopping from one place to another for campaigning, said, “I am doing rallies in Delhi slum areas, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal speaks a lot for the rights of slum dwellers but one can see the pathetic conditions of roads and garbage sites in every corner,” Lekhi said while campaigning in Begampur area of Malviya Nagar.

The BJP MP said New Delhi has been evolved now as compared to others. Demography is different and changed a lot. “Parliamentarians and bureaucrats, Defence personnel live here and the area is well managed by two of the richest civic agencies of Delhi — the New Delhi Municipal Council and the South Municipal Corporation of Delhi (SDMC),” Lekhi added.

“Earlier, IAS officers used to visit abroad to learn about gardening and other on ground required skills, however, this was the first time when gardeners went in different part of the world to learn skill which they required to beautify the area, not the officers,” she said.

To interact with voters, Lekhi travelled in Delhi Metro from AIIMS to Patel Nagar. Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government role in diplomacy.

Commuting with passengers in Delhi Metro, Lekhi said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was originally endowed to the people of Delhi by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.  Lekhi is confident of her victory not only in Capital but in Kerala also.
