Hours after a 32-year-old businessman went missing, his body was discovered from a drain a few metres away from his residence in Outer Delhi’s Rohini Sector 16 area in the wee hours of Tuesday. During preliminary investigation, police found that the deceased was strangled to death with a belt and then his body was dumped.

According to the police, Abhishek Jain, a resident of Rohini Sector 16, who dealt in hardware business, had reportedly gone missing for a few hours on Monday night.

His family became anxious as his mobile phone was also switched off. Unable to find Abhishek, the family approached the KN Katju Marg police station to register a missing complaint.

“At around 4 am on Tuesday, a passer-by informed us that body of a man was found dumped in a drain,” said a senior police officer.

On reaching the spot, the police found that the man had been strangulated with a belt. Upon enquiry, police established that the body of the man found in the drain was that of Abhishek Jain.

His family was informed and the body was taken to a local hospital for post-mortem. We questioned Abhishek’s family and friends to ascertain if he was involved in personal or professional rivalry with anyone. So far, the family has denied about this, said police.

Police further said that the family of Abhishek told them that he got married two and a half years back and was trying to expand his business. Further investigation is underway.

Police said that they have registered a case of murder at the KN Katju Marg police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unknown persons.
