A 30-year-old businessman shot dead his paramour inside his car after she refused to end ‘illicit’ relationship with him. He then drove with the body for 30 minutes in North Delhi’s Maurice Nagar before informing his family members of the crime and later confessed it before police. He was arrested from the crime spot and a case is registered at Maurice Nagar Police Station.

The accused identified as Naveen Uppal alias Sunny, a resident of Tri Nagar ran a shoe factory in outer Delhi. The deceased — identified as 40-year-old Anjali was married to another businessman and had two kids — was a resident of Rohini Sector-24.

The two were in a relationship for seven years and  due to their age gap their parents did not approve of their marriage. According to police, while Anjali got married to another man, she continued her relationship with Naveen and were planning to elope to get married in a temple.

However, before they could execute their plan, Naveen informed her about tying knot with another woman under family pressure two months ago. It led to constant tension between the two. “Naveen decided to end his relationship with Anjali so as to move on in his life with his wife. He called Anjali to GTB Nagar police station on Tuesday at 4 pm,” told a senior police officer.

Naveen went to pick her up in his ECO Sports white colour car bearing number — Dl8CAK 8361— and drove her across the area of Maurice Nagar. According to police officials, Naveen tried to pacify her on his decision to settle apart and move on with their lives but Anjali feeling cheated, asked him to marry her right away in a temple.

“Naveen drove back to North Campus, parked his car near Hindu College and tried settling the argument but on Anjali’s disapproval, he fished out a country pistol from under his driver’s seat and fired at her head,” told the police officer.  Naveen drove for 30 minutes with the body following which he confessed to his crime before his uncle who had called him around 7.30 pm. Naveen also told his uncle that he too would commit suicide but on the latter’s suggestion he drove back his car to Hindu College where a police team had already reached. Naveen’s uncle informed the police around 8.27 pm that he was going to commit suicide following which a team of officials called Naveen and asked him to come to Hindu College.

later when police team found the car, recovered Anjali’s dead body lying in a pool of blood with Naveen behind the wheels. He was detained and after his confession, he was arrested.

An FIR was filed in Maurice Nagar Police Station under Section 302 of IPC and appropriate Sections of Arms Act.
