Days after the security manager of Pride Plaza hotel in Aerocity was arrested for allegedly molesting and harrassing a woman staffer of the hotel, a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a woman duty manager at Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi district’s Chanakyapuri.
The accused has been identified as Manoj Gupta, who is a businessman and a resident of Pashchim Vihar, said sources. He had come to the hotel on the morning of August 20 for party at Playboy club and then spend the day at the hotel. The incident took place at the lobby of the five-star hotel.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi district, BK Singh, was unavailable for comments.
A senior police officer said the accused had come to the hotel at 7.45 am. “He came to the hotel around 8 am in the morning for check in but since he did not make any bookings with us, we asked him to make the booking for his room online. After receiving the booking, I informed him that our check-in time is 12 noon and if he wanted the room, he had to pay extra for early check-in. That is when the Gupta started shouting and abusing me and the reception staff and said objectionable things,” said the victim in her complaint to police.
The police officer said the accused, while hurling abuses at the woman allegedly, said that he would throw money at her face and also made comments that outraged her modesty.
Despite this behaviour, the hotel staff, including the woman was calm and asked the accused to mind his language and behave.
“When I told him that I will call police, he replied, call the military if you want, I am not scared of anybody. You don’t know who I am,” the victim. alleged.
After getting his room keys, the accused hurled abuses at the woman and checked into room number 502.
A PCR call was then made by the victim and other hotel staff as well and a police team reached the spot, took down the manager’s complaint and went to the room of the accused to question him.
“We took the man to the lobby where the victim was and after she identified him, we arrested Gupta,” said the police officer.
