The administration on Thursday sealed all farmhouses in village Roz Ka Gujjar that were illegally running small tourism units and other commercial activities. Borewells installed there were demolished and electricity connection was disconnected. Singer Mika Singh was one of those affected.
Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner PC Meena said, "We have constituted a team, including SDM South, officers of the district forest department, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HPCB) and police, to inspect commercial activates in farmhouses."
"During inspection, the team noticed that signboards include Camp Caravon, Mercury Himalayan Adventures, Sans Eco-Adventures, Water Banks, Dream Islands, Farmhouse of Mika Singh etc. Most of these units have hut-like kuccha and RCC structures for tourism. Besides, small constructions like borewell chambers, fenced lands, single rooms, which are lying defunct, could also be seen," Meena added.
Earlier, the National Green Tribunal had raised objection to running of commercial activities in village Roz Ka Gujjar, 75 per cent of which falls in forest area.
Revenue records revealed that areas with minor constructions fall under zones closed under Section 4 and 5 of the Punjab land Preservation Act (PlPA), 1900 and are thus in violation of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980 and also the Aravalli notification of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, dated May 5, 1992. Violations of Controlled Area Act were also seen.
According to Meena's orders, in absence of consolidation, no construction in village Roz ka Gujjar can be taken up. According to the Divisional Forest Officer, the forest department has dug trenches to cut off movement of tourist vehicles; notice boards carrying warnings of violation of forest laws are also up. Despite this, the small tourism units were found functional.
