Top cop asked to take action against officers on Bar plaint

The Delhi Police Commissioner was asked by a court on Wednesday to file an action taken report on a complaint by New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA).

NDBA had complained against policemen who were allegedly sheltering an advocate accused of attempt to murder.

District Judge IS Mehta forwarded the NDBA complaint and asked the Police Commissioner to pass directions on law and order in Patiala House Courts Complex.

NDBA president Rajiv Jai and other Bar members filed a complaint in court that policemen had allegedly escorted in court advocate Vijay Aggarwal, who represents some accused in the 2G spectrum case and against whom an FIR was lodged for attempt to murder, rioting and criminal intimidation.

Meanwhile, NDBA's Additional Secretary Tarun Rana said they have decided to observe a day-long strike at Patiala House courts on Thursday demanding Aggarwal's arrest.

According to NDBA, Aggarwal had, on March 1, allegedly threatened a lawyer and also called some bouncers into court premises. Allegedly, some lawyers  were beaten up.

On March 4, Aggarwal was expelled from membership of NDBA and his chamber number 251 in Patiala House Court sealed after a general body meeting discussed “abusing, threatening and unethical behaviour”. Aggarwal had denied the “false” allegations.

On Wednesday, at around 11 am, high drama was witnessed when Bar members asked an Inspector how Aggarwal was being escorted by the police despite the fact that he was an accused in the attempt to murder case.
