TOKEN GESTURE!

A station controller has been suspended for his alleged involvement in a racket that involved resale of already-sold tokens at Ghitorni Metro station of Delhi Metro’s Yellow line. An enquiry into the same has been launched by DMRC.

According to a Metro official, initial enquiry by the security cell of DMRC has found out that the illegal racket had been in operation for around a fortnight and the cumulative estimate of losses suffered by DMRC over that period accounts to around Rs25,000.

“There have been reports that the scam is causing daily losses running into lakhs for DMRC. Those estimates are grossly exaggerated,” said the official.

The station master who was allegedly involved in the racket has been caught and was immediately suspended. According to the official, major penalty chargesheet has also been issued to him and based on the final results of the enquiry, further action will be taken.

DMRC enquiry into the matter may also look into the fact if such rackets are operational in other Metro stations as well.

The modus operandi of the racket involved stopping passengers deboarding at Ghitorni Metro Station from depositing their tokens at the exit gate. Since the token remained valid, it was resold to the other commuters. The money thus, collected was shared among the station controller and other staff members involved in the scam.
