Delhi Police have claimed to have recovered the three-year-old girl who went missing from India Gate in New Delhi last week. According to police, Jahnvi was recovered from the lajwanti Garden area near Janakpuri. However, her parents are yet to confirm whether the recovered girl is Jahnvi or not.

On Sunday, Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone who helped in tracing three-year-old Jahnvi, who went missing from India Gate in the heart of the national Capital last week. The girl along with her parents and other relatives had reached India Gate last Sunday evening from where she went missing. Family members of the girl had suspected she had been kidnapped.

Police had registered an FIR at Tilak Marg police station and several teams, including those from Crime Branch and Special Cell, were working on the case. Posters with the girl’s photo, requesting help from people to trace her, had gone viral on social networking websites. A protest was also held by the family and relatives of the girl on Saturday night at India Gate, which was later shifted to Jantar Mantar by police.

Jahnvi along with her parents Rakesh Ahuja and Sheetal and other relatives had visited India Gate on September 28 for a family outing. She was playing in the park on Man Singh Road next to Raksha Bhavan. Her mother claimed she picked her up around 9.30 pm as they were about to leave. “She was out of my sight for only two minutes and could not be seen after that. We looked for her everywhere,” said a distraught Sheetal.

The father of the girl claimed that police registered the FIR on the morning of September 29. “We requested police to look for her but they said they knew their job,” said Rakesh. In the CCTV footage, Jahnvi can be seen playing in the area for around five minutes, after which she disappears.
