A three-year-old child was shot at allegedly by his aunt in north Delhi’s Anand Parbat area.
According to police, the accused was trying to fire from the pistol when the incident happened. Police said that Heera (name changed), the 47-year-old grandaunt of the victim, made a false story in order to save her daughter-in-law.
According to Sagar Singh Kalsi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North district, the incident took place on Saturday and police received information around 1 AM following which police team rushed to hospital and found a three-year-old child under treatment.
"The child had a gun-shot injury on his left shoulder. Heera told police that the boy is the grandson of one of her sisters and lives with her. On Friday, she had gone to meet her another sister residing in Shastri Nagar. The boy was feeling uneasy there and she decided to return home at Than Singh Nagar," said the DCP.
"Around 12 AM, she was walking towards her residence along with the child. When she reached Sarai Rohilla flyover, two bike borne persons came, fired at her and ran away. The boy received bullet injury and she took him to hospital. Police checked CCTV footage installed at the route taken by the complainant, but she didn’t appear in any footage. This raised suspicion and her sister, residing at Shastri Nagar, was examined who said that the complainant did not visit her home," said the DCP.
"During examination, she confessed that the bullet was fired by her 19-year-old daughter-in-law Fatima (name changed) while she was trying to fire from the pistol available at her house, but the bullet hit the child," the DCP said. Police recovered the pistol at her instance and they both have been arrested, police said.
"During interrogation, Heera disclosed that she hatched a conspiracy to falsely implicate the family member of an accused, who is in jail in a case registered on the complaint of the younger sister of Fatima," said the DCP.
Fatima is married to younger son of Heera and her sister also live with them, police said. It was also disclosed that the pistol was brought by her sons. Efforts are being made to trace both sons of the accused, police added.
