Helping students connect after school, the Directorate of Education (DoE) of Delhi has taken an initiative to create a Delhi Government School Alumni database by adding a link named DGS Alumni on the Directorate’s website. The link will help students network with other ex-students of Government schools, who are occupying respectable positions in different spheres of society. According to director Padmini Singla, so far more than 400 alumni have registered themselves at the link.
Singla said that the link would work as a wonderful opportunity for like-minded citizens who got their education in Government schools, succeeded in their careers and now are in a position to do something for their school. “I am a proud product of a Government school myself. It struck me that it would be a good idea to provide a common platform to all the alumni of Government schools where they can come together and contribute in their own ways for their beloved alma maters,” she further added.
Similarly, the alumni of Shakti Nagar (number one) Government Boys School has formed an association named Shakti Nagar (number one) Old Boys Association (SHOBA). The association had donated two water coolers, two air conditioners to the school and recently had created a smart class at the cost of around Rs 9 lakh. School principal RA Verma has also contributed Rs 1 lakh for the same cause.
During a visit to the school, Chief Secretary of Delhi SK Srivastava also lauded the efforts made by Verma in pooling the resources for the school by bringing together its old students on one platform. One of the ex-student of the school, who is now an AGM rank officer in a nationalised bank, played an important role to provide the furniture and furnishings worth about Rs 30 lakh to the school.
