To avenge FIR, rape accused kidnap victim 20 days later

In an unprecedented event, rape accused kidnapped the minor victim, they had raped 20 days ago, from her residence in Shadipur Chirauli village of Greater Noida at gunpoint on Thursday night. The victim’s family said the accused —  Shahnwaz, Shahid, Sharafat and Shadaquat  — barged into her house and abducted her since they were annoyed with her for lodging a complaint against them. However, police claimed that the victim eloped with the accused of her own volition.

On Friday morning, the minor’s family along with hundreds of villagers gathered at the Badalpur Police Station and demanded police rescue the girl. The protesters blamed police for inaction. They also threatened to intensify their protest by blocking the National Highway. The protest ended after an assurance from a law enforcement agency to investigate the matter.

According to the girl’s family, around 20 days ago, four persons — Shadaquat, Shahnwaz, Shahid and Sharafat — had kidnapped the girl, repeatedly gang-raped her and dumped her near her house five days later. When the family approached the police, a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Badalpur Police Station and Shadaquat was arrested on August 25, while the other three were absconding.

“After registering the complaint, the accused and their families were threatening us with dire consequences and were also pressurising us to withdraw the plaint. They might have abducted the girl with the intention to rape her again or worse, kill her,” rued a relative of the victim.

“Though our investigation reveals that the girl could have eloped with the accused to marry one of them, we have decided to register a fresh complaint in this regard. We are conducting raids at several places to look for her and are questioning the family of the accused in order to trace them,” said a senior police officer.
