A woman sub-inspector of Delhi Police, who was involved in a road rage incident in Rajouri Garden, has been arrested along with a male SI. The woman SI and the male SI were found to be under the influence of alcohol and were booked under various Sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) after senior police officials intervened.

According to the police, the incident happened around 10 pm on Sunday in the AD block area of Rajouri Garden when the female SI Anu was passing by the area along with her partner SI laxman. They were in a Maruti Swift Dzire.

Another Marurti Ertiga brushed past their vehicle and that enraged the cops, who got down from their car and started thrashing the occupants of the Ertiga. Eyewitnesses told the police that SI Anu and SI laxman were not only abusive but also threatened them of dire consequences.

The ugly scene created by the SI duo attracted more passersby and situation became volatile. The crowds vent its ire on the tipsy cops and gave them a sound thrashing.

Someone informed the Police Control Room (PCR) and the local police officials arrived on the scene

and the situation was

salvaged somewhat.

The matter was brought to the notice of senior

police officials of West district and both the SIs were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhayay Hospital for a medical examination as they reeked of alcohol. Doctors confirmed that they were drunk. It prompted the local police

to register a case

under the appropriate Sections of Indian Penal Code.

The female SI later alleged she was molested and misbehaved with and a cross case was registered on the basis of her statement.

Senior police officials said departmental proceedings have been initiated against both the SIs and they have been arrested too.

Police also arrested two other persons who were reportedly involved in the fracas with the two police personnel, a senior police official of West district added.

The latest incident comes two month after over 60 Kashmiri students were expelled from a Meerut University after cheering for Pakistan cricket team during an Asia Cup match against India.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Twitter, “If the universities or State authorities can’t protect Kashmiri students coming there then man up & admit your inability or unwillingness.”

In a sarcastic remark, Omar said beating patriotism into these students would not remove any fear of sense of alienation among the Kashmiris.

“let’s beat patriotism in to Kashmiri students, why don’t we. Great way to remove any fear or sense of alienation among Kashmiris. Thugs!!!” he tweeted.

Srivastava blamed people’s lack of civic sense. “When we were initially building the foot overbridges, we were criticised for slow work because several accidents while crossing the roads were reported. After the bridges were made, people didn’t want to use them. They’d rather risk their lives than climb stairs. likewise in the case of dustbins, people want to throw rubbish near the trashcan, never into it,” he said.
