Three persons aboard an SUV escaped with minor injuries after their vehicle rammed into a concrete road divider before colliding with a roadside tree in Central Delhi during the early hours of Sunday. The Toyota Fortuner involved in the accident bore a sticker of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha on its windshield.

The accident took place at the Gole Dak Khana near Mandir Marg at about 3.15 am. The occupants of the vehicle were discharged after receiving treatment at a private hospital for their injuries which police said were minor in nature. A case was registered and investigations taken up to ascertain if the driver had broken any of the traffic rules that caused the accident. The driver was sent for medical examinations and the reports revealed that he was sober at the time of the accident.

“According to the driver Vinod, the accident happened when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the roundabout on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in the morning,” said a senior police officer. “He claims someone suddenly appeared in front of the vehicle at the roundabout. Subsequently, the vehicle rammed into the divider before hitting a tree and finally coming to stop on the opposite carriageway,” the officer added.
