Three Delhi Police personnel posted with RK Puram police station in South district accused of thrashing four young men have been sent to district police lines pending departmental inquiry. The four persons were arrested in connection with a clash between two groups in South Delhi’s RK Puram police station. Action against the three police personnel was initiated after locals lodged a strong protest at the police station demanding action against the trio. They have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar and Constables Mohit Kumar and Paramveer.

Earlier in the day, angry locals gathered outside RK Puram police station to lodge their protest on Tuesday morning over the alleged assault on four youths and demanded action against the errant policemen. “They have been accused of badly beating up four youths who were arrested Sunday night after a skirmish between two groups in Ekta Vihar,” said a police officer. The policemen would be suspended if they are found guilty in the inquiry and as of now they have been attached to the district police lines.

It has been learnt that the four youths — identified as Pradeep, Saleem, Noni and Sajan, in their early 20s — were forcibly picked up by the police on Sunday night. Allegations are rife that the four youths, taken away by the policemen, earned their livelihood by playing for a musical band.On the fateful night, they were returning from West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh when they saw two groups engaged in fisticuffs in Ekta Vihar. These men intervened, helped broker peace between the groups and pacified the situation. However, police arrested them in connection with the case and thrashed them in lockup,” said a protester. They also claimed police demanded money from the victims for their release.

The victims were released on bail on Monday evening following which their family members and other locals were told about alleged police brutality.
