A 35-year-old man was arrested from Mumbai for allegedly stealing $1,400 from the hand baggage of a Chinese national at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on September 30.

Chen Yang, who was travelling from Delhi to Mumbai, found the zip of his bag open after the X-ray screening. After checking his bag, he found that $1,400 had been stolen from his hand baggage.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGIA, Sanjay Bhatia, said, “After the matter was reported to the police, they started scanning the CCTV footage and saw one Rajesh Kapoor taking money out of Yang's bag.”

It was found that the culprit had taken a flight to Mumbai. learning this, the CISF and local police at the Mumbai Airport were informed and the culprit was nabbed from there, the senior police official said. Kapoor had been previously involved in similar thefts at railway stations and Indira Gandhi International Airport.

In January, he had stolen three credit cards from a cabin bag in a flight and 16 bottles of imported perfume were purchased with those stolen credit cards. He was arrested in that case. He used to target passengers who travel by air because he felt that there were less chances of being caught as nobody suspects such incidents to be happening at the airport or in flight.
