Fog-blind, city slows to a crawl; flight ops disrupted

Bad news for air travellers as fog will continue to get dense and envelop the Capital, NCR in the coming days which may cause severe disruption in flight schedule.

After the season’s first dense fog descended on Delhi on Monday, the Met Department said that there is high probability of it getting denser in the next ten days. According to the Meteorological Department, the visibility is expected to deteriorate further.

“The fog will become thicker as the days pass by. Tuesday will see the same density of fog as Monday; especially in the morning the visibility will be less than 50 metres and could become even zero. When visibility is less than 50 metres, the fog is categorised as very dense,” said a Met official.

According to the weatherman, apart from fog partly cloudy sky is expected till December 20. The duration of dense fog is likely to increase further over plains of North West India during the coming days with very dense fog over isolated pockets in this area.

The reason, cited by the IMD is the presence of Westerly Winds for a few days due to which the weather was relatively dry, but with depressions clearing in the Bay of Bengal, shallow to dense fog conditions are developing across some parts of the Indo-Gangetic plains.

However, there will be a minor change in the temperature by one or two degrees. Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius, which is the average temperature during this time, said a Met official.

The minimum temperature would be in the range of 7°C-9°C and the maximum would be in the range of 20°C-23°C on Tuesday.
