There's more than one way to apply to college

Students who have submitted more than one application to the Delhi University — online or offline — need not worry about being disqualified as the university has decided to merge all the data based on the student’s board roll number. This means that students who have filled five courses in one form and six in another form will have the advantage of being considered for all the courses mentioned in the first and second form.

The process of uploading OMR forms and collating data is underway at the university and officials have said that all applications received online and offline will be analysed together. “We are putting

together the entire online and offline data. Once we do that, we will see which students have filled more than one form and then collate that data. There will be no case where the student will be disqualified for multiple forms,” said an official in the Dean Students’ Welfare office.

Officials feel that most students have filled multiple forms either thinking that each college needs to be individually applied to or that a separate form needs to be filled for each course. “It is usually this confusion that leads students to fill multiple forms. So it is not fair to penalise them for it. Thus, we will merge all the forms submitted under one board roll number and then analyse the data. This way the student who has applied five times and marked one course in each form, will be eligible for all the five courses he has applied for,” said the official.

Students are extremely relieved with this decision of the university. Sarthak Arora, a student who wants to pursue Economics Honours in the university said, “In the first form that I filled I had only marked Economics Honours. But then my family told me to apply to Mathematics and English as backup options as well. So I filled another form. I was very scared that this may create a problem but I’m happy that it won’t.”

The entire data analysis is expected to reach colleges by Friday evening after which they can take out the cutoffs. The first list of cutoffs will be out on June 24.
