The Delhi Police has succeeded in cracking a case of theft on Gurduwara Rakab Ganj road. After getting a complaint from Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar that a Ganesh Idol of gold was stolen from his official residence at 7, Gurduwara Rakab Ganj road, by his private security guard last week, police swung into action and arrested the accused, officials said on Wednesday.
Along with the idol, the guard also took away a corporate HDFC bank credit card that belonged to the MP’s deputy Manager Prasad Palangattea and allegedly withdrew money, said officials.
According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Amit Kumar and is a native of Jai Prakash Nagar in the national Capital.
Police with the help of CCTV cameras and other clues found out who the thief was and nabbed Amit from his residence and recovered the stolen cash and property.
During interrogation, the accused told police that he committed the theft out of greed as his income was not much and he needed money.
Chandrashekhar further complained, " As per information provided by the HDFC bank, the credit card was used by the accused and `50,000 was withdrawn from it (`10,000 five times) after which we blocked the account immediately,"
Accordingly a first information report was registered under section 380( theft) and 411( dishonestly receiving stolen property) at North Avenue Police station and the accused was sent to judiacial custody.
This is third theft reported in an MP’s house under the jurisdiction of the North Avenue Police station. Earlier, The Pioneer had reported thefts that took place in the first week of October in the houses of Congress MPs Pradeep Bhattacharya and Mohammed Ali Khan.
