Delhi Police has identified two persons who claimed to be the witnesses in the mysterious death of Gajendra Singh, a farmer from Dausa district in Rajasthan, at an AAP rally at Jantar Mantar. Sources said that the witnesses told Delhi Police that Gajendra Singh never wanted to commit suicide. He was provoked by an AAP leader to stage a suicide drama during the April 22 farmers’ rally.
Sources also said that he was assured of some monetary help for his act. Meanwhile, Delhi Police Crime Branch tasked with the investigations has withheld their identities since their statements are part of the ongoing investigations.
The witnesses are allegedly AAP supporters who had come to attend the rally and had witnessed the much talked about incident right in front of their eyes, sources said. They told police that a senior AAP leader had instigated Gajendra to climb the tree and stage a suicide drama. The witnesses claimed that Gajendra was accompanied by this AAP leader in question before the rally. The leader had reportedly promised monetary help to Gajendra if all went according to plot. A broom was handed over to him by an AAP volunteer before he was asked to scale the tree.
It has been revealed that Gajendra Singh, under financial duress, was distressed and had discussed it with some of the AAP members. Gajendra was in touch with his family members in Rajasthan on the fateful day and had even asked them to watch him on TV.
On Friday, The Pioneer had reported that Gajendra had spoken to his wife over phone and asked her to switch on the television. Preliminary investigations have found that a written note recovered from the spot did not match Gajendra’s handwriting. The note had been sent to the forensics and its report is awaited.
As per police investigations, 40-year-old Singh mysteriously hung to death while he was allegedly trying to commit suicide from a tree during the rally at Jantar Mantar. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and senior AAP leaders like Kumar Vishwas and Sanjay Singh were present at the rally when the incident took place. On the basis of initial probe, an FIR under the section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 186 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions) against unknown persons had been lodged in New Delhi police station and the investigation of the case was handed over to Delhi Police Crime Branch.AAP leader accused of ‘staging suicide drama’
