The great cover up

Orange cluster buses running in the national Capital are soon set to appear more colourful owing to a new advertising model. Replicating the idea from buses in cities like New York, london and Paris, adverts will initially cover the left and rear of the buses, and later will be introduced inside.

“In the first phase, wrap ads will only be put up on the left and rear of all cluster buses. In the second phase, we will cover the interiors of the bus as well,” a senior official of DIMTS, which runs the 1,200 cluster buses in coordination with the Delhi Government, said. Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS), on behalf of the Transport Department of the State Government, has floated tender in this regard, and after selecting company, work on this project will be started.

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is also in the process of selling advertisement space on its buses in a bid to boost its revenues. “With this project, it will also boost revenue. Besides it will also make the buses look good,” the official said, adding that the Transport Department will be looking after the advertisement project. According to Transport Department officials, only those public service vehicles (PSVs) with GPS installed in them will be allowed to display advertisements.
