The enemy within: Attrition & infighting sap AAP's power

Published on:

Since the inception of the AAP, the journey for the anti-corruption crusaders has not been an easy one. On the one hand, they’ve struggled hard to make a place for themselves in the political circle, on the other, they have lost several founder members.

Disgruntled leaders have often openly spoken against the party administration. And now, as senior AAP member Shanti Bhushan raised another controversy by praising Kiran Bedi, it is evident that everything is not as rosy as it seems.

According to most of the former members, their main reason for despair is the dictatorial style of party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Some of the prominent names, who left the party complaining about being sidelined due to internal politics, are Jangpura MlA Mahender Singh Dhir, founding member Shazia Ilmi, Captain Gopinath, SP Udayakumar, Ashwini Upadhyay and Vinod Kumar Binny.

Besides, there have been several instances which have revealed the infighting even within the top leadership of the party. The biggest row in this context was when Yogendra Yadav’s leaked letter to the AAP leadership and Manish Sisodia showed that all is not well with the upstart.
