The 'bloody' last day campaign of students politics

Ahead of Delhi University Students'Union elections, lot of drama was witnessed on Wednesday with the main rivals from the student wings of Congress, BJP and AAP pointing fingers at each other over "physical attacks" on their candidates.

The Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) alleged that their presidential candidate Pradeep Vijaran and vice-president nominee Prerna Singh were attacked by members of AAP's student wing CYSS during campaigning at the PGDAV college in South Delhi while BJP's Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) claimed that the NSUI had targeted its volunteers and presidential nominee Satinder Chaudhry, at two DU colleges.

"Our presidential candidate was attacked by the CYSS. He was brutally attacked by goons of the ABVP and CYSS without any provocation. The goons were led by CYSS presidential candidate's brother with a group of ABVP activists. It happened while our candidates were campaigning at PGDAV College," said Amrita Dhawan, the vice president of NSUI.

Vijaran was taken to the AIIMS for treatment and later got back to campaigning.

Terming the allegation of the NSUI against them false, the ABVP said the events were "unfortunate", and "unprecedented".

"The NSUI is trying to politicise the issue by blaming the ABVP while we have absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, our candidates' cavalcade was attacked by the NSUI supporters outside the Motilal Nehru college and his brother received head injury in one such attack at Swami Vivekananda college," Saket Bahuguna, State Secretary of ABVP told The Pioneer.

He blamed NSUI for triggering its supporters to attack the ABVP after making "false" allegations.

"These attacks were triggered after the NSUI made baseless allegations. Firstly, they wrote on Twitter that CYSS was behind the attack and then after some time made allegations against us to gain political mileage," Bahuguna said and took a jibe at "AAP goons" saying they had turned the election platform of Delhi University into "violence" and "muscle power".

"On the contrary, we are victims of AAP goons too. They have no students support...all they are doing is create mess through violence to grab the attention. They involved entire government machinery in something which is completely a student's affair."

While all the three rival camps lodged police complaints over the alleged violence, no FIR has been registered yet.
