Ten old age homes in capital on the horizon

In a bid to offer huge relief to elderly people in the city, the Delhi Government is planning to come up with at least 10 old age homes across the national capital. For the commissioning of these old age homes, the Government has identified 10 sites at various locations. The first old age home is likely to be launched in Rohini’s Sector 4 by the year-end.

The Government in coordination with MCD and PWD is launching 10 old age homes. This is part of the Government’s initiative for providing proper place to senior citizens with all basic facilities,” said the Government official. Along with the commissioning of new old age homes, the Government is making all possible effort to revamp existing old age homes, the official said.

Earlier in the month of July, the old age home based in South Delhi was flooded due to which about 250 elderly were evacuated to a safe place.

Taking cognisance of the safety of senior citizens, the Government is revamping existing old age homes with new infrastructure and administration. “We are working to revamp the existing old age homes and putting more efforts on the monitoring mechanism,” said the Government official.

“Presently, the existing old age homes need optimum administration to carry out the smooth functioning,” said the official.

The other nine old age homes are at the conceptual stage as it needs the approval from MCD and PWD. The allocated sites for them include Kanti Nagar, Chittaranjan Park, Paschim Vihar, Wazirpur, Geeta Colony, Janakpuri, Sarita Vihar, Pitampura and Shakur Basti. “For the land in Pitampura, we are getting in touch with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA),” said the official.
