In a major case of negligence, the skeleton of a teenage girl was found inside a room of a North Municipal Corporation-run Ayurvedic Hospital in North-west Delhi’s Haiderpur area on Tuesday morning. The skeleton is said to be three-months old.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, north west district, Milind Dumbare said, "We are probing the matter," and refused to divulge further details.
A police source said that a call regarding the skeleton being found in the hospital premises was received at Shalimar Bagh Police Station at around 10.30 am. The senior police officials then visited the spot. "The skeleton was found at the second floor of Ayurvedic Hospital. It was discovered by the local BJP councillor Sujit Thakur during an inspection," the source said.
The councillor said that he had been receiving complaints regarding lack of basic facilities in the hospital and decided to conduct a surprise check. He said he also took health officials and zonal engineers with him in his surprise check.
"I was shocked when I came to know about the skeleton of a teenage girl lying inside a room of the hospital. It was at the second floor. Only a few starnds of hair were left on the skeleton which indicated that it was a girl. Her age was about 15 or 16 year," Thakur told The Pioneer. Thakur said that he called the PCR and reported the matter to the police.
"I have spoken to the SHO of Shalimar Bagh Police Station regarding the skeleton and security lapses. The girl might have been attacked and was killed when she resisted rape attempt. There are possibilities that the attackers wanted to rape the girl and might have killed her when she resisted their attempt," Thakur said.
The skeleton was moved to a nearby hospital for conducting forensic examination. A case in this respect was lodged with the local police station. However, the identity of the deceased is yet to be established.
The BJP councilor said that there was no CCTV camera installed at the hospital premises or the incident could have been averted.
