Two days after the gory incident, Jawaharlal Nehru University teachers and students met on Friday to introspect and revive campus atmosphere. The gathering was organised by JNU students' union to express 'solidarity and a way forward'. In the meeting, students and teachers exchanged their opinions to stop any such incident from happening in future.
Senior teachers, members of various teachers and students association addressed the gathering. They expressed solidarity with each other and discussed the way and means to make the campus and its community stronger and powerful by filling the gaps in the gender sensitisation, counselling and overall grounding of individuals.
Sanjay Pandey, the President of the JNU Teachers' Association, said the gaps can be bridged by keeping in solidarity within the community and standing together.
"We need to stand together at this moment by keeping away all the differences. We should project to each other with much humility and trust. There is a need to contemplate and push on the need of tolerance as on campus. I am concerned and telling my students today that we need to be more vigilant and aware of what is happening around us," he said.
Piyush Raj, the Joint Secretary of the JNUSU said, “We are introspecting to find out where we had gone wrong.” “As much as there is worry there is a sense of responsibility among us. JNU already has committees for counselling and grievances but the gap needs to be checked to not have such thing happen again,” Raj said.
