Talks not possible: Kisan Sangharsh

Published on:

Hundreds of farmers have stayed put at National Capital’s borders demanding the  Centre to repeal the new farm laws. The farmers and Government are expected to meet at 2 pm on Wednesday for talks. However, All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) has refuted any possibility of any discussion in tomorrow’s talks until the agenda of repeal of the three farm acts and EB 2020 is taken up first. Meanwhile, security remained tight at the Delhi borders with hundreds of personnel deployed at Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri where the farmers have been camping.

AIKSCC said it is illogical for the government to assert that these acts are for benefit to farmers. “Crores of farmers who know the reality of companies better than him are sitting at his doorstep for more than a month. The acts, which legally establish corporate, both Indian and Foreign, will undermine government mandis and help bind farmers in contracts. They will input costs, reduce prices, raise farmer debts and lead both to increased alienation from land and suicides,” alleged AIKSCC.

AIKSCC asserted that the farmer under contract will have to borrow and the Contract Acts provides for such borrowing by mortgaging and for recovery of dues from land.

The farmer unions have deferred to Thursday their proposed tractor march against the contentious agriculture laws, so that the rally does not clash with their talks with the government on Wednesday.

The unions have agreed to hold the next round of talks with the Central government on Wednesday, but insist the agenda of the meeting should include discussing modalities for repealing the three legislations.

Earlier this week, Samyukt Kisan Morcha -- an umbrella body of 40 unions leading protests at Delhi border points — had announced a tractor march from the Singhu and the Tikri borders to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Highway on December 30.

Meanwhile, the farmers demonstrating against the Centre's new agri laws on Monday performed yoga on the Delhi-Noida Link Road at the Chilla border where they have been camping for 28 days now.

The road remained closed for Noida to Delhi movement but was open for commuters travelling from Delhi to Noida. While the traffic movement at Singhu and Tikri borders remained closed.
