Taimur Nagar killing: Residents take out candle march, seek CBI probe

Published on:

Distressed over police inaction to arrest both the assailants who killed 34 year-old Rupesh Basoya in Taimur Nagar, residents of the area took out a candle march on Wednesday evening demanding to transfer the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

"It has been more than 2 days but so far police have failed to find any clue regarding the assailants. We want the investigation to be transferred to the CBI. We also want the Bangladeshi migrants to be removed from the area as they indulge in drug peddling," said Umesh Basoya, brother of the deceased.

The candle march was supported by various Resident Welfare Associations' (RWA) across the National Capital. In Taimoor Nagar after Rupesh was shot dead by two unidentified assailants, locals on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday staged protests and accused the police of being hand in glove with the accused.

Initially, locals burnt two motorcycles and pelted stones at the police personnel who were trying to manage the crowd. A policeman was injured in the stone pelting.

Residents alleged that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are residing in the nearby JJ cluster and are involved in drug trafficking. They alleged that illegal immigrants are also involved in petty crimes and are the ones involved in sale of drugs.
