An imposter, who tried to browbeat the director of Super Cassette Industries limited (SCIl) in the name of political bigwigs, is being investigated by Crime Branch of Delhi. According to sources, an unidentified caller spoke in the intonation of BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, RJD leader lalu Prasad Yadav and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking favours for an ex-employee of the company.
Police said that the complaint was lodged by the 60-year-old director of SCIl, Ved Parkash Chanan, a resident of Greater Kailash-II. “The complainant told police that for the past few months, he had been receiving threatening calls from a poseur,” a senior police officer said, adding the caller also threatened him of dire consequences.
So shaken was the complainant after receiving that many calls that he decided to meet the concerned politicians. He was in for a rude shock when told that none of them had ever called him.
“The complainant informed investigators a few weeks ago that his manager Beer Singh received a call wherein the caller had pretended to be PM Manmohan Singh and asked him to do Kishan Kumar, a former employee sacked six months ago, a favour. The caller asked for Kishan Kumar reinstatement with promotion. He further threatened to hurt his family if his demands were not met,” the officer added.
It was then that the complainant decided to inform police and sent recordings of his conversation with the caller to Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi. Based on the victim’s plaint, a case has been registered under Sections 419, 507 and 120-B of the IPC. The case is being investigated by the Inter State Cell of Crime Branch. “We are scanning the call detail records (CDR) on the victim’s cell phone and probing the ex-employee for further clarity,” the officer added.
