After facing flak for PM’s Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has constituted a new committee to ensure cleanliness across the city. The municipal corporation has come up with this new plan to form a committee to oversee all six zones. Previously, under PM Narendra Modi’s Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan, various committees were constituted by the corporation, which left many questions unanswered.
The move to constitute committees came after the High Court’s criticism over carrying out cleanliness in the areas. These committees at the zonal level constitute of the Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Director and Assistant Commissioner of the respective zones. The Commissioner will be the in-charge of the team. “MCD Commissioner PK Gupta has directed the zonal officials to supervise the cleanliness of roads, streets and other public places and ensure hygiene in the areas. The officials have been asked to check if there is malba on the streets,” said an official.
The officials have been directed to check if the garbage is being lifted up daily and sent to the landfill site. Special attention will be laid to ensure that dhalaos have zero garbage once in a day. The administration has tightened its noose on stray animals and birds and said that action will be taken if they are found on streets/parks.
The administration would ensure that the cleanliness works are dressed in proper uniform. The Commissioner has also said that a duly report of the work done will be sent to the administration. Earlier committees were formed to carry out cleanliness works under PM’s cleanliness drive which garnered much criticism across the Capital.
