‘Retract remark or face rage’
Hundreds of women Congress workers on Thursday reacted sharply to BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy’s objectionable statement against Priyanka Gandhi, dubbing the BJP leader as having “unhealthy mind” and accused him of taking a ‘cheap’ shot, for publicity.
They staged a demonstration outside the residence of the BJP leader in Nizamuddin area, demanding unconditional apology for his disparaging allusion to Priyanka Gandhi. Mahila Congress workers, led by leader of Opposition in the East MCD Varyam Kaur, gathered outside Swamy’s residence on Thursday morning and raised slogans against the BJP leader. Protesters tried to enter his residence, but police personnel stopped them.
“From his insinuation, it is clear Swamy has no respect for women. He should immediately take back his words which he used against our leader. If he doesn’t apologise promptly for his invective, we will intensify our agitation,” said MCD councillor Savita Sharma. After holding protest outside Swamy’s residence, Congress women workers also tried to stage a stir on Mathura Road, but police intervened.
“Swamy’s allegations are baseless. We will not rest easy till he apologises for the slanderous remarks made,” Delhi Mahila Congress leader Onika Mehrotra said.
