A day after the Aam Aadmi Party released its please-all manifesto, senior BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy lashed out at AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal for “bluffing the people of Delhi” regarding their approach to fight graft by introducing the Jan lokpal Bill.
Questioning the passage of the Bill, a statement issued by Swamy said, “The claim to get the Jan lokpal Bill passed has bluffed the people of Delhi. It is a Union Territory; and police, law and order and prosecution of public officials are not within its power.”
“If indeed, the Delhi Assembly passes any such Bill it will not only have to get the assent of the President but it will have to be first ratified by the Parliament before it can become a law,” said Swamy, who is also a lawyer.
The BJP leader also attacked Kejriwal for his knowledge about governance issues.
“I have always maintained that Kejriwal is basically a semi-literate on governance issues. His training as an Income Tax official does not prepare him for that. Governance is a multi-disciplinary subject. It is better that Kejriwal reads the law before making such hollow promises to the public,” said Swamy, who has launched scathing attacks on the party and its leaders several times in the past, including the recent attack questioning the source of funds collected by the AAP.
The major promise made by the AAP has been passing of the Jan lokpal Bill, which has also come under sharp criticism from senior advocates of the Supreme Court who believe that the Jan lokpal Bill is just a political gimmick, which is being used to mislead people.
