Swachchh Delhi app fails to meet expectations

Published on:

Delhi Government’s Swachchh Delhi app launched almost three months ago on November 16 last year has turned practically bootless with the number of complaints dropping to mere 83 from 4,000 per day.

On Friday the app recived only 83 complaints. While 73 of those are awaiting action, 10 have been marked ‘Junk.’

Since the launch application has received a total of 58,481 complaints. While 42,549 have been acted upon, 6,753 are still marked pending  Surprisingly, a whopping 9,179 complaints have been junked.

On November 22, 2015, Kejriwal, to promote the ‘Swachh Delhi’ initiative had also inaugurated a cleanliness drive: Swachch Delhi Abhiyan, in the presence of Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and three Mayors of municipal corporations.

“Once you use the application and send us the picture of the garbage, we will automatically get the exact location and the longitude of the place. So, it will be convenient for the residents and local bodies (MCD and PWD) to track the location accurately and clean it,” Kejriwal told the residents on the launch of the application.

The application was to focus on the participative nature of the residents of the national Capital where they were enabled to apprise authorities by taking pictures of garbage. However, the current scenario raises a question mark on the effectiveness of the application as number of complaints has gone down by each passing day.
